Tuesday’s photograph on the front page struck me powerfully. It showed women and children coming out of a wooded area, heading home to Kosovo. I took a second look at the photograph and thought I recognized the face of a young boy — a friend of my son’s in school. One of the women looked like a good friend of mine from college living in Arkansas. I was struck by how much the Kosovo refugees look like me…us. I had tried to ignore the nightly television newscasts and the daily accounts of the horror of the situation. The photograph stunned me into realizing the refugees look just like me…us.
