Although we are not related, Stephen King and I now have more than one thing in common. First of all, we are fans of the Woodland High School Dragons basketball team and we have watched and shared candy and popcorn at a home game in Woodland and a tournament game in Bangor.

Secondly, we share some of the same injuries. Aug. 28, 1998, I opened a friend’s door thinking it was the kitchen and fell down to the cellar. Literally I broke everything but my neck and my left leg. I also had an external fixator on my right leg and knee; I spent 31/2 months at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and four months in bed at home.

Thanks to Dr. Bob Gause and Carlene West for making me take that first step, I can now walk again.

Stephen, you will make it through this with all the prayers, support and lots of hard work. I know, I’ve been there and I feel your pain. I hope we’ll meet again at another Dragons game.

I wish for you a speedy recovery, best wishes and prayers. Harriet King Martell Woodland
