ROCKLAND — The vacant city manager’s job has attracted 40 applicants, a staffer in the City Manager’s Office confirmed Thursday.

The deadline for submitting resumes for the $56,000 a year job was Wednesday.

City Manager Richard Michaud left the job June 18 to become Saco city administrator.

City Clerk Stuart Sylvester is acting city manager until the position is filled.

An interview committee, consisting of city residents Kevin Fellows, Donald Conrad and Peggy Sargent, will review the applications.

After narrowing the field of candidates, the committee may be asked to conduct initial interviews, Mayor James Raye had said. The committee would then recommend about five candidates to be interviewed by City Council, he said.
