AUGUSTA – Permit applications to hunt deer of either sex must be postmarked no later than August 2, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife announced.
Applications are available from most license agents and at all regional headquarters and offices of the Dept. of Inland Fisheries.
The free any-deer permit allows hunting of deer of either sex in one of the 30 wildlife managment districts. Permits are chosen through a random drawing for each district. Hunters must have a valid Maine license to hunt big game when applying for the any-deer permit.
Beginning in the 1999 deer hunting season, an any-deer permit issued to an adult may be transferred to a junior hunter or a person over 65 by completing the necessary transfer sections on the any-deer permit and returning the permit to the Department for validation prior to October 30.
