MACHIAS — The late Dr. John F. Hanson will be honored by Down East Community Hospital at a 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, ceremony at the newly completed operating suite, which will be dedicated to Hanson’s memory.
Hanson was the hospital’s first medical staff president, surgeon and founder. Area residents are welcome to attend.
After the dedication program, people will have a chance to tour the newly renovated obstetrical unit and other renovated areas, including the new bone densitometry room.
Hanson, a Machias native, was one of seven members of the initial medical staff appointed in October 1964. He led the medical staff as their president in 1964 and 1965.
