NEWCASTLE — A 19-year-old passenger was killed early Wednesday when he was thrown from a speeding Ford Expedition that went out of control on a corner on Academy Hill Road and flipped over, authorities said.

Christopher Martinat of Lake Forest, Ill., was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1 a.m. accident, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department said.

The driver, Andrew Vanella, 19, also of Lake Forest, has been charged with aggravated operating under the influence.

Vanella was taken to Miles Hospital in Damariscotta for treatment of minor cuts and bruises before being transferred to the Lincoln County Jail.

The Sheriff’s Department said Vanella was driving too fast and that the crash was still under investigation.
