MADAWASKA – Mike Sirois netted three goals to lift Van Buren past Madawaska 5-3 in each team’s first game of the season Friday.

Eric Ayotte notched two goals and an assist for the 1-0 Crusaders. Zac Cote and Channel Wright had one assist apiece. Sean Violette turned away nine of 17 shots.

Ben Marshall scored three goals, all unassisted, for the 0-1 Owls. B.J. Dufour made 13 saves on 20 shots.

Washburn 5, Wisdom 2

At St. Agatha, Kyle Thibodeau hammered in five goals, lifting Washburn to a season-opening win over Wisdom.

Chris Tupper and Adam Worsley each had one assist for the 1-0 Beavers. Jesse Maynard was the goalkeeper.

Matt Bourgoin notched two goals and Chad Gervais added an assist for the Pioneers, 0-1. Rick Sirois took care of goalkeeping duties.

Girls

Van Buren 2, Madawaska 2

At Madawaska, Heather Bouchard scored with 13 minutes left in regulation on a pass from Kristin Pelletier as Madawaska pulled out a tie with Van Buren.

Bouchard finished with two goals for the Crusaders, now 0-0-1. Danielle Lavoie added an assist. Meghan Marshall stopped five of nine shots.

For the Owls, also 0-0-1, Denis Marquis notched two unassisted goals. Kasey Violette made 16 saves on 26 shots.
