COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. – The Maine Express baseball team went 1-1 in Tuesday’s games at the Age 11-12 Cooperstown Tournament. Maine Express defeated the Southern California Redbirds 16-4 in the first game and lost to the Virginia Metro Braves 10-9 in the second game.
Maine Express improved to 5-1 at the tournament with one game remaining in the preliminary rounds.
In the first game, Maine Express amassed 13 runs in the first inning en route to a four-inning, mercy-rule shortened victory. Jordan Heath of Bangor, Pat Fecteau of Biddeford, Kevin Elwell of Biddeford and Zac Lurvey of Saco had two hits apiece, including home runs from Fecteau and Elwell. Josh Stowell of Portland also slammed a home run. Winterport’s Pat Moran was the winning pitcher.
In the second game, Virginia Metro edged Maine Express when P.J. Sadler belted a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh.
Jake Albert of Augusta led Maine Express, going 4-for-4 at the plate. Fecteau added three hits and Heath had two. Albert, Fecteau and Stowell each had a home run.
