Ayotte, Wright connect for Van Buren victory

ASHLAND – Eric Ayotte converted a pass from Chanel Wright with 16 seconds left in the second half to lift Van Buren to a 2-1 victory over Ashland in schoolboy soccer action Friday.

Wright and Ayotte also hooked up earlier in the second half for the 5-0 Crusaders. Wright scored on a pass from Ayotte 4:29 into the second half. Sean Violette stopped seven of eight shots.

Danny Maker scored unassisted on a breakaway with 21:35 left in the second half for the 1-1 Hornets. Eric Ham made 21 saves on 23 shots.

Cen. Aroostook 2, Washburn 1

At Mars Hill, Scott Walsh scored off a pass from Shane Bradstreet with 27:21 left in the second half, providing the game winner as Central Aroostook upended Washburn.

Scott Mullen scored a first half goal with an assist from Jordadn Codrey for the Panthers, now 3-2. Arlie Wiggins stopped 13 of 15 shots.

For 5-2 Washburn, Trevor Thibodeau tied the game with a second half goal off an assist from Ross Wright. Jesse Maynard turned away 14 of 28 shots.

Fort Kent 2, Madawaska 0

At Fort Kent on Thursday, Anthony Lammar and Scott Theriault each netted a goal to lead the Warriors to the victory.

Cody Daigle contributed an assist for 1-2 Fort Kent. Nick Thibodeau stopped 14 of the 16 shots he faced.

For the 3-2 Owls, Scott Levesque turned away 14 of 35 shots.

Caribou 1, Houlton 0 (OT)

At Houlton on Thursday, Tyler Giles booted an unassisted goal 57 seconds into overtime to give the Vikings the win.

Giles fielded the ball in the air and kicked it in the net after a Houlton fullback bobbled it. Nick Chasse made five saves on five shots as Caribou improved to 2-0.

For 0-3 Houlton, James Skehan had four saves on five shots.

Girls soccer

So. Aroostook 6, Easton 1

At Island Falls, Rhonda Chambers and Michelle Boutlier each scored two goals and added an assist, leading Southern Aroostook past Easton.

Nicki Lyons and Kristi Brooker notched one goal apiece for the Warriors of Dyer Brook, now 2-1. Meghan McLaughlin added one assist. Kara Dickinson turned away six of seven shots.

For the 0-4 Bears, Stacy Sullivan netted an unassisted goal. Jenny Littlefield stopped 16 of 22 shots.

Van Buren 5, Ashland 0

At Ashland, the Crusaders exploded for three goals in the last 6:45 of the first half, breaking a scoreless tie, to defeat the Hornets.

For Van Buren, now 4-0-1, Denise Marquis scored a pair of goals. Heather Parent, Elena Dumont and Jackie O’Hare each had one unassisted goal. Lukey Gagnon and Micah Laplante had one assist each. Kasey Violette made two saves on five shots.

Kim Oakes turned away eight of 15 shots for 0-3 Ashland.

Washburn 4, Hodgdon 1

At Washburn, Elizabeth Howard and Melissa Jordan scored two goals apiece to lead the Beavers past the Hawks.

Jordan and Howard each had one assist for 3-3-1 Washburn. Crystal Blakeney made 22 saves on 27 shots.

Briann Blanchette scored on an assist from Lara Griffin for Hodgdon, now 4-2. Danielle Brown turned away 11 of 22 shots.
