Allen scores 2 in Patriots’ victory

MILO – April Allen booted home two goals to lead the Penquis Patriots to a 5-2 schoolgirl soccer victory over Deer Isle-Stonington on Friday.

Miranda Nichols, Missy Chase, Maria Kirby, and Jennie Bishop all scored for 2-1 Penquis, while Amanda Martin and Jenny Vail each had an assist. Lillian Garrish stopped four of six shots.

Molly McDonnell and Angie Douglas scored for Deer Isle-Stonington. Morgan Sickles stopped 10 of 16 shots.

Schenck 4, Dexter 0

At Dexter, Erin Johnston scored one goal and assisted on two others to lead the Wolverines of East Millinocket past the Tigers.

Alicia Cram tallied twice, assisted by Johnston both times. Kristen Birt posted the first goal, and Shannon Chavarie had two assists for 2-0 Schenck. Goalie Emily Davis made four saves on seven shots.

For 2-1 Dexter, Christine Buzzell made 10 saves on 14 shots.

Winslow 10, MCI 1

At Pittsfield, Brittany MacLean and Erin Corey each scored three goals for Winslow to keep the Black Raiders undefeated.

Kristen Belanger scored twice and Sara Couturier and Sara Smith each notched a goal for 3-0 Winslow. Smith added three assists and Corey had two, while Melissa Deviller stopped four of five shots.

Jessie Thompson scored late in the second for 1-2 Maine Central Institute, while Jen Cummings made 17 saves on 32 shots.

Richmond 8, Valley 1

At Bingham, Megan Pearson scored three goals to lift Richmond.

Caroline Musica and Amy Pinkham each recorded a goal and an assist for 3-0 Richmond, while Sunshine Anders scored twice and Sarah Coughlin notched a goal. Amy Beckwith stopped five of six shots.

Tiffany Messer scored an unassisted goal for 1-2 Valley. Sophie Belanger and Megan Dunton combined for 15 saves on 23 shots.

Ellsworth 4, Sumner 0

At Ellsworth, Becky Lock scored twice to power the Eagles in the shutout.

Sarah Silsby and Mallory Patten each scored a goal and Katie Sirois and Hiedi Chan added assists. Bekah Metzler turned away two of four shots for 2-0-1 Ellsworth.

Amanda Schacter stopped 19 of 35 shots for 0-2 Sumner of East Sullivan.

Cam-Rock 9, Rockland 1

At Camden, Shannon Ames recorded three goals and two assists to power the Windjammers.

Jenni Spinney added two goals, while Janelle Lavoie, Becky Bradeen, Nesli Orton, and Nicole Emery had one apiece. Laura Gross provided two assists, Emery and Tina Taylor one each.

Toni-Lynn Robbins and Anna Goodale saw action in goal for 1-0-1 Camden-Rockport, facing one shot.

Jennifer Pallitto converted a Jesse Baines assist for Rockland. Sarah Waterman stopped nine of 26 shots for the 0-2 Tigers.

Lee 3, Penobscot Valley 1

At Lee, Deidra Ham scored a goal and assisted on another to pace Lee Academy to its triumph.

Raven Flynn and Brittany Mallett had the other Lee goals and Ashley Linscott made 16 saves.

Mitch Doyon scored for Penobscot Valley of Howland, and Heidi McGinn made 12 saves.

Katahdin 5, Central 0

At Corinth, Ashley Robinson netted four goals to lead the Cougars of Sherman Station.

Brandi Shawn recorded a goal and an assist and Lindsay Duffy-Stanley had one assist for 3-0 Katahdin. Kim Mann made eight saves on 10 shots.

Jen Allen stopped 15 of the 18 shots she faced for the 0-3 Red Devils.

Field hockey

Hampden 2, Nokomis 1

At Hampden, Sharon Ireland drove in a Heather Hessert pass in the circle to lift 2-1 Hampden.

Hessert scored off a corner to get the Broncos rolling, while Jennifer Hessert stopped 16 of 17 shots.

Mandy Foss scored off a Liz Mendell pass for 2-1 Nokomis of Newport, while Veronica Gilbert turned away five of seven shots.

Boys soccer

Islesboro 2, Highview Christian 1

At Charleston, Ian Gallant scored the first goal and assisted on the second as the Eagles opened with a win.

Eric Wuori scored the second goal for Islesboro. Tiger Bell made three saves on four shots.

Devon Philbrick recorded the lone goal for 0-2 Highview. Brandon Philbrick made seven saves before being injured in the second half and David Day made two saves. They faced a combined 12 shots.

Richmond 3, Valley 1

At Bingham, Sean Coughlin’s goal with 2:20 left in the first half broke a 1-1 tie to help the Bobcats to the win.

Coughlin also scored the insurance goal. Andy Alexander recorded Richmond’s first goal off an assist by Eric Soribellito, and Nate Badge assisted on Coughlin’s game-winner. Matt Pelletier made three saves on seven shots.

Chris Willer scored for the Cavaliers off an assist by Jeremy Jones. Ryan Atwood stopped 15 of the 25 shots he faced.

Cam-Rock 2, Rockland 1 (2OT)

At Rockland, Mike MacDonald scored off an Abe Dugal assist with two minutes left in the second overtime to lift the Windjammers.

Beau Belajones converted a Kessler Horty assist 30 minutes into the game to open the scoring, while Camden-Rockport’s Will Dennen stopped 11 of 14 shots for the 2-0 ‘Jammers.

Rockland’s Stuart Bicaj scored off a Greg Harjula pass to tie it with 23 seconds remaining in the first half. Justin Widdecomb turned away 17 of 23 shots for 0-2 Rockland.

Foxcroft 3, Orono 2

At Dover-Foxcroft Thursday, Aaron Suomi scored off a Pat Lizotte assist with 13:07 left in the game to lift 1-1 Foxcroft.

Seth Condon scored off a Paul Meyer assist and Lizotte scored unassisted for the Ponies. Jon Tabor got the win with 12 saves on 26 shots.

Daryl Watson scored both goals for Orono, and Jake Hedstrom had an assist. Mark Mehuren stopped 16 of 26 shots for the 1-1 Riots.

Wisdom 2, Central Aroostook 1

At Mars Hill, Matt Bourgoin scored twice, including the game-winner off a header with 26:36 left in regulation, to lift the Pioneers of St. Agatha.

Nick Berce added an assist on Bourgoin’s first goal and Rick Sirois made 14 saves on 18 shots.

Shane Bradstreet converted a Scott Walsh assist for 5-4 Central Aroostook, while A.J. Wiggins and Derek Ouellete combined for five saves on 10 shots.

Madawaska 5, Limestone 1

At Limestone, Ben Marshall scored three goals and Guy Michaud added two to fuel the Owls’ win.

Justin Wood gave 7-2 Madawaska its only assist, while B.J. Dufour made two saves on three shots.

Ricky Luna scored an unassisted goal for 2-6-1 Limestone. Pete Bradley made 12 saves on 24 shots for the Eagles.

Van Buren 5, Fort Fairfield 0

At Fort Fairfield, Channel Wright and Eric Ayotte each recorded two goals as the Crusaders rolled.

Mike Sirois added a goal and two assists for 9-0 Van Buren. Sean Violette made two saves on five shots.

Ryan Babin stopped 28 of 33 shots for the 1-7-1 Tigers.

Washburn 2, Ashland 1

At Ashland, Frank Plucker scored the game-winner at 3:58 of the second period on a direct free kick to lift 8-4 Washburn.

Chris Tupper tied it at 11:41 of the second on a corner kick, while Ben Umphrey stopped 10 of 14 shots for the Beavers.

Rustin Lovewell scored off a Geoff LeBlanc assist at 20:25 of the first period, while Eric Ham turned away nine of 11 shots for 3-3 Ashland.
