Churchill, Calais upend Raiders

CALAIS – Katie Churchill scored one Calais goal and notched the assist on the other to propel Calais to a 2-0 schoolgirl soccer win over Washington Academy.

Kari Redding scored first for 3-3-1 Calais, Sarah Reynolds tallied an assist and Morgan Drew and Crystal Martin combined to stop six of seven shots.

Katie Kurz made 24 saves on 27 shots for Washington Academy.

Greenville 2, Highview Christian 0

At Charleston, Julie Richardson scored both goals for the Greenville Lakers as they notched their first win of the season.

Amanda Rice assisted on one goal and Jesse Craft made two saves on five shots for the 1-4 Lakers.

For the 0-2 Knights, Sara Smith saved 26 of 30 shots.

Brewer 2, Hermon 0

At Hermon, Leslie Rosa and Kristina Orcutt each scored a goal to lead the Brewer Witches to their first win of the season.

For the 1-5 Witches, Alison Wing turned aside 15 of 16 shots for the shutout.

Tabby Stevens saved 14 of 19 shots for the 1-5 Hawks.

Field hockey

MCI 3, Maranacook 1

At Pittsfield, Amanda Leavitt scored one goal and assisted on another as Maine Central Institute got past the Black Bears.

Kerri George and Casie Sullivan scored a goal apiece for the 2-3-2 Huskies. Becca Cianchette notched an assist. Amanda Quint made seven saves on nine shots.

Erin Calligan scored the goal for 4-1 Maranacook of Readfield. Lindsey Piper made eight stops on 12 shots.

JV: 1-1

Hermon 2, John Bapst 1

At Bangor, Tonya Laughlin’s shot to the left side of the net on a penalty stroke with 13:55 to play broke a 1-1 tie and gave the visiting Hawks the victory.

For the 4-3 Hawks, Laughlin also scored the first goal, on a Beth Connolly assist. Kacie Hutchinson saved 18 of 27 shots.

For the 1-3 Crusaders, Catherine DelVecchio scored on an Erin Young assist. Kitty Sullivan saved 16 of 22 shots.

JV: 2-2

Foxcroft Academy 4, Nokomis 3

At Newport, Devin Clawson scored the winning goal in the second overtime for Foxcroft Academy.

Holli Nichols scored the other three goals goals for 7-0 Foxcroft Academy. Amy Kelley added an assist. Beth Lewis made 16 saves on 19 shots.

Liz Mendell scored two unassisted goals for 4-2 Nokomis. Laura Pelkey added a goal off a Jesse Randlett feed. Veronica Gilbert and Amanda Swain stopped 17 of the 21 shots taken against them.

Boys soccer

PCHS 1, Penquis 0

At Guilford, Chris Conner converted a Scott DeCastro assist into the lone goal for Piscataquis Community.

Goalkeeper Buddy Leavitt made 13 saves on 23 shots for the 5-0 Pirates.

Matt Pokrywka saved 14 of the 25 attempted shots against the 4-2 Penquis Valley Patriots.

Bangor Christian 3, Lee 2

At Lee, Nate Conley scored two unassisted goals as the Patriots held off the Pandas.

Conley assisted on a Ransom Kent goal. Mark Reitsma made 13 saves on 27 shots for 6-2 Bangor Christian.

Matt Corbin scored an unassisted goal for 4-3 Lee. Dustin Pickering netted a goal off an Opie McDonald assist and Adam Ham stopped 10 of the 20 shots he faced.

Hampden 7, Nokomis 0

At Newport, Derek Rodgerson scored two goals to lead the Hampden Academy Broncos to victory.

For the 5-2 Broncos, Justin Groshon had a goal and two assists while Sean Tardif finished with a goal and an assist. Jon McBee, Ross Franchi, and Sam Bosse each scored a goal. Noah Peet made two saves on four shots.

For the 1-5-1 Warriors, Tyler Peters and Luke Hayden combined to save 11 of 27 shots.

JV: Hampden 5-4

Old Town 4, Bucksport 3

At Bucksport, Joseph Dana scored off an assist by Nick St. Louis with two minutes left in the game to lift the Indians past the Golden Bucks.

Andrew Pease scored twice and added an assist. Ryan Bernard scored a goal and recorded two assists. John Graves and Tim Dolley combined for six saves on 15 shots for 5-1-1 Old Town.

Tyson Grindle, Rico Penaranda and James Mills scored for 1-6 Bucksport. Pat Lalonde added an assist. Grindle and Kyle Howard combined for 12 saves on 20 shots.

JV: Bucksport 1-0

Ellsworth 4, GSA 0

At Ellsworth, Courtney Bunker scored two of Ellsworth’s four second-half goals to lead the Eagles over George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill.

Greg Murray and Cooper Friend each scored a goal for the 5-0-1 Eagles. Graham McBeth, Isaiah Hangge and Buddy Archer each had an assist. Joseph Richards stopped eight of 12 shots for his third shutout this season.

Frank Lymburner and Isaac Chittenden teamed up to save 14 of 22 shots for the 3-2 Eagles.

JV: Ellsworth 2-1

Sumner 1, Deer Isle-Stonington 0

At Deer Isle, Matt Bernier scored on a direct kick with 21:22 left in the first half to give the Tigers their first win.

Jimmy Malloy stopped 12 of the 17 shots he faced for 1-5 Sumner of East Sullivan.

Andy Bye made seven saves on 17 shots for the 1-6 Mariners.

MDI 7, Brewer 0

At Mount Desert, Sylvan Herskowitz scored three goals to lift the Mount Desert Island Trojans over Brewer.

Will Hathaway had two goals and an assist for the 3-1-1 Trojans. James Hopkins also scored two goals and Mike Garrity made three saves on seven shots.

For the 0-6 Witches, Mike King stopped seven of 19 shots.

JV: MDI 3-2

Central 4, Schenck 1

At Corinth, Andy Matulis scored two goals to lead the 4-2 Central Red Devils past Schenck of East Millinocket.

Joe Allen and Andy Koncinsky added goals for the Red Devils while Justin Ladd and Bill Kane tallied assists. James Nickerson made seven saves on 10 shots.

Schenck’s Steve Johnston converted Bob Jamo’s assist into the goal for 3-3 Schenck. Mike Rossignol made 10 saves on 25 shots for Schenck.
