Ayotte leads Van Buren past Greenville

VAN BUREN – Channel Wright set up Eric Ayotte for two second-half goals Wednesday as top-seeded Van Buren posted a 2-1 victory over No. 4 Greenville in an Eastern Maine Class D schoolboy soccer semifinal.

Ayotte scored at the 9:56 off a Wright assist, then the two teamed up 12 1/2 minutes later. Sean Violette made 10 saves on 13 shots for the 15-0-1 Crusaders.

Gregory Aucoin scored an unassisted goal with 2 1/2 minutes left for 12-3-1 Greenville. Aaron Crossman came up with 23 saves on 31 shots.

Class A

Brunswick 2, Bangor 1

At Brunswick, Kyle Vosmus tallied two first-half goals to lead the top-seeded Brunswick Dragons over No. 5 Bangor.

Nate Barnes passed the ball from the left wing to assist the first Vosmus goal 15:33 into the first half. Rob Areson passed the ball to the middle from the left wing to assist Vosmus’ second goal 36:45 into the first. Brian Wallace turned away 17 of 18 shots for the 15-0-1 Dragons.

Bobby Leavitt scored the Rams’ lone goal off a long throw-in, scoring from the 18-yard line. Nick Loukes saved 17 of 20 shots for the 11-4-1 Rams.

Brunswick coach Pete Gardner commented, “the game was quite hard-paced, both teams played very well and Bangor did a great job controlling the ball. The game wasn’t one-sided at all.”

Class C

Searsport 2, Madawaska 0

At Searsport, Joey Light scored first-half goals less than eight minutes apart as the second-seeded Vikings shut out the Owls in a rematch of last year’s regional title game.

Light scored off a Pasco Grove assist with less than five minutes gone in the game, then scored an unassisted goal 7 minutes, 37 seconds later. Ben Relyea made eight saves on 15 shots for 15-1 Searsport.

B.J. Dufour made 10 saves on 22 shots for No. 6 Madawaska, which wound up 12-4.

Penquis 2, Piscataquis 1

At Milo, Eric Ballash notched the unassisted game-winning goal with 17:24 left to lead the top-seeded Patriots to victory.

Jeremy Allen scored the first goal of the game off a Ballash assist with 31:56 to go in the first half. Matt Pokrywka saved 12 of the 16 shots he faced for the 14-2 Patriots.

Chris Connor tallied an unassisted goal with 8:20 to play in the first half for No. 5 Piscataquis Community of Guilford. Buddy Leavitt saved 18 of 26 shots for 11-3-2 Piscataquis.

Class D

Machias 2, Bangor Christian 1

At Machias, Erik Smith tallied an unassisted goal to break the tie with 20 minutes left in the second half to secure the victory for the No. 2 Bulldogs.

Aaron Getchell scored the first Machias goal with 32 seconds remaining in the first half, while goalie Kevin Loughlin saved seven of 14 shots for the 14-2 Bulldogs.

Nate Conley notched No. 3 Bangor Christian’s goal, scoring unassisted at 9:17 into the first half. Mark Reitsma saved 19 of 31 shots for the 11-5 Patriots.

Girls soccer

Class A

Waterville 4, Messalonskee 1

At Waterville, Kristine Serdjenian tallied two goals, one unassisted, and recorded an assist to pace the third-seeded Purple Panthers.

Misty Trinward added a goal in the first half assisted by Becky Dubois. Lauren Tebbetts scored off a Serdjenian assist in the second half while goalie Pam McGuan saved nine of 10 shots for 13-2-1 Waterville.

Izzy Smith scored for No. 7 Messalonskee goal off a direct kick, netting the first goal of the game. Jen Baker saved 14 of 22 shots for the 9-5-2 Eagles of Oakland.

Class B

Winslow 3, Old Town 0

At Winslow, Sara Smith scored two second-half goals to help top-seeded Winslow improve to 16-0.

Smith scored her goals 21 minutes apart. Erin Corey provided a first-half goal and an assist. Rachel Plourde assisted on Smith’s second goal. Katie Poulin made five saves on 12 shots.

Justine Ferland made 10 saves on 21 shots for No. 5 Old Town, which wound up 13-3.

Class C

Madawaska 5, Searsport 3

At Madawaska, Kristin Pelletier scored two goals and assisted on one and Kristine Cyr scored one goal and assisted on two to power the top-ranked Owls past the fifth-seeded Vikings.

Pelletier’s second goal off a Cyr pass with 23:02 left in the game proved to be the game-winner for the 11-1-3 Owls. Emily Lavertu and Crystal Dambois each added a goal and Danielle Lavoie notched an assist. Meghan Marshall made 10 saves on 13 shots.

Holly Grace scored two goals for 11-4-1 Searsport and Jessica Plourde chipped in with a goal and an assist. Sara Glidden added an assist and Erica Curtis made 18 saves on 25 shots.

Calais 1, Schenck 0 (2 OT)

At East Millinocket, Katie Churchill scored the unassisted game-winning goal as the sixth-seeded Calais Blue Devils edged No. 2 Schenck to advance to the Eastern Maine championship game.

Jennifer Russell saved 14 of 22 shot for 11-4-1 Calais.

Emily Davis saved 12 of 20 shots for the 11-4-1 Schenck Wolverines of East Millinocket.

Class D

Katahdin 1, Ashland 0

At Sherman Station, Melissa Landry scored on a Lindsay Duffy-Stanley assist 7:06 into the first half, giving the second-seeded Cougars the margin of victory.

Kim Mann made five saves on five shots for 12-2-2 Katahdin, which beat Ashland for the third time this season.

Kim Oakes made seven saves on nine shots for the sixth-seeded Hornets, who finished at 6-8-2.

Van Buren 1, Bangor Christian 0

At Van Buren, Denise Marquis scored the game-winning goal for the top-seeded Van Buren Crusaders on a penalty kick with 6:38 remaining in the first half.

Lukey Gagnon recorded the assist on Marquis’ goal while Kasey Violette saved two of four shots for the 12-2-2 Crusaders.

Lee-Ann Trottier saved eight of 14 shots that she faced for 9-6-1 Bangor Christian, the No. 4 seed.

Monmouth Acad. 4, Valley 2

At Monmouth, freshman Katie Stinson made her season debut after missing the regular season with tendinitis in her calf, scoring two goals to help the top-seeded Mustangs win their Western Maine contest.

Alicia Drake and Jesse Sawyer scored the other goals for 13-0-2 Monmouth. Lisa Hasch made three saves on six shots.

Tiffany Messer scored both goals for fourth-seeded Valley of Bingham, which wound up 8-6-1. Sophie Belanger racked up 23 saves on 34 shots.

Georges Valley 1, Carrabec 0

At Thomaston, Bo Libby recorded the game-winning goal off a Stephanie Hiller assist just after a corner kick with 23:42 to go in the first half to lead No. 2 Georges Valley over No. 3 Carrabec in Western Maine action.

Kali Ausplund saved eight of nine shots for the 9-5-1 Bucaneers.

Liz Luce saved 12 of 16 shots for the 9-7 Cobras of North Anson.
