DEXTER – Foxcroft Academy multi-purpose back Brian Bellemare rushed for 280 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Foxcroft Academy Ponies to a 31-13 high school football win over the Dexter Tigers Saturday.

The win cemented third place and a first-round playoff matchup with No. 2 Stearns of Millinocket Friday night. In the other LTC Class C semifinal, No. 1 Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln will host No. 4 Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Inside linebackers Rob Vigue and Jason Sands led Foxcroft’s defense in tackles.

For the Tigers, quarterback Brent Patterson completed seven of 18 passes for 100 yards and carried the ball 17 times for 70 yards. Free safety Kevin Armstrong led the team with 13 tackles and defensive end Ben Robinson added nine tackles and a sack. Cornerback Mark Cooper had three tackles and an interception.

At Fairfield, Waterville quarterback Dean Carpenter passed for 153 yards and three touchdowns to help the Purple Panthers secure the fourth and final Pine Tree Conference playoff spot.

Waterville will travel to take on No. 2 Mt. Blue of Farmington in the PTC semifinals. The other semi will send No. 4 Oxford Hills of South Paris to No. 1 Bangor.

Panthers tailback Tony Harmon capped the scoring with a 52-yard touchdown in the final quarter and finished with 95 yards on 10 carries. Defensive lineman David Pooler returned a first quarter Lawrence fumble 51 yards for a touchdown. Waterville’s defense held the Bulldogs to 109 total yards.

Carpenter has a PTC-best 13 touchdown passes in the regular season.

The talented backfield duo of Troy Savage and Don Thibodeau, which entered the game with 2,012 yards rushing, was held to 116 yards.
