SAD 35 leader named Superintendent of Year

SOUTH BERWICK — Wesley E. Kennedy, SAD 35 superintendent, is Maine’s 2000 Superintendent of the Year. Kennedy was nominated by his board of directors for his dedication, leadership, creative outlook and perseverance.

Kennedy is Maine’s representative for the 2000 National Superintendent of the Year competition and in December a National Blue Ribbon Panel will choose four finalists from among state winners. The 2000 National Superintendent of the Year will be named at the AASA National Conference on Education in early March in San Francisco, Calif.

Kennedy has worked in the public school system for more than 36 years. He served as assistant superintendent in SAD 35 for nine years and as principal of Marshwood Junior High School for six years. He also was MSSA representative on the Governor’s Task Force on School Construction, chairman of the MSSA Legislative Committee, and is a member of the NEASC Advisory Committee.

“I feel fortunate to be part of an outstanding school system — the SAD 35 community of students, teachers and citizens. My thanks to board members who nominated me and to my peers who made the final selection for the Maine Superintendents Association,” Kennedy said.
