Once again our super-intelligent “big brothers who are looking after us dumbies” legislators have eroded our rights as U.S. citizens. From my earliest days in school I was taught that in America a person was innocent until proven guilty, but that in Canada or Great Britain you had to prove your innocence.

But now, thanks to the 118th Maine Legislature — after living in Mars Hill/Blaine for 55 years, where I was born, educated, have lived while attending college, and have taught for 33 years — I must prove I am not a child molester in order to keep my teaching and coaching job. This is absurd. Is it even constitutional?

I realize much of Aroostook County is owned by Canadian companies, but we still live in the United States of America. Don’t we?Sylvanus Pierce Mars Hill
