LENNARD BYRD
ORONO – University of Maine football player Lennard Byrd of Kingston, N.Y., received the Coca-Cola Gold Helmet Award from the New England Football Writers’. Byrd returned a punt 44 yards for a touchdown with just 2:06 left to play to lift UMaine over Northeastern University on Saturday. Byrd also made an interception.
STEVE TARDIF
CASTINE – Steve Tardif of Biddeford scored an New England Football Conference record 38 points in the Mariners win over Framingham. He rushed for 288 yards on 45 carries, with six rushing scores. Tardif equalled or broke at least six NCAA and NEFC records.
