Colby, Alma to meet for title

WATERVILLE – Ken Allen led Colby College with 18 points as the Mules knocked off Newbury 89-60 in the first round of the Colby Invitational Friday.

Colby will meet Alma for the championship at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Sam Clark grabbed 14 points and 11 rebounds in 26 minutes for the Mules.

George Greene had 16 points to lead Newbury. Greg Nolley and Matt Alston each scored 11 points.

At Waterville, the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers mounted a solid, second half effort, but couldn’t overcome a 17-point halftime deficit as Alma College of Alma, Mich., downed UMF in a first round game at the Colby Invitational.

For Alma, Jeremy Hyler led the way with 19 points and eight rebounds while Joe Peters and Seth Stapleton each scored 13.

For UMF, Jared Rivers scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Daren Meader added 21 points.
