Applegate shines in 3rd, lifts MDI

ORONO – Darren Applegate scored eight of his 18 points in the third quarter to lift Mount Desert Island past Orono 66-55 Wednesday in high school basketball action.

Applegate finished with 16 rebounds. Ian Jones netted 15 points for MDI and Chris Douglas added 10.

Mike Ulrich paced Orono with 17 points and Mark Mehuren contributed 16.

At Alfond Arena, Griffin Dill scored off a Ryan Bernard assist at 1:10 of the third to lift the Indians to the win.

Shawn Bryant and Bernard also scored for 1-0 Old Town, while Mathew Dupree and Balakw Cleary added assists. Casey Powers stopped 23 of 25 shots for Old Town.

Ian Harger scored off a Luke Hopkins assist and David Fauthaber converted a Harger assist for Maranacook. Matt Zeh stopped 32 of 35 shots for 1-3 Maranacook.

Foxcroft 6, Houlton-Hodgdon 2

At Bangor’s Sawyer Arena, Foxcroft received goals from six different players to upend Houlton-Hodgdon.

Rob Orton, Ben Sagan, Ian McNulty, Ryan Taylor, Seth Condon and Corey Bealieu all scored for Foxcroft.

Orton and Condon each had two assists while McNulty and Taylor had one apiece.

Ryan Sylvia and Andrew McPartland scored for Houlton-Hodgdon.
