BANGOR DAILY NEWS (BANGOR, MAINE

I want to thank all of the generous, hard-working people who helped the Salvation Army give hope and Christmas to hundreds of people. I found myself struggling this year and applied in Bangor. I was told the local service agent would contact me.

Three days passed with no word so I called the local welfare office and got the name and phone number of the Salvation Army volunteer. I called repeatedly night and day with no response. By Wednesday I was worried and anxious, yet my local office could help if I came in to apply, so Thursday morning I called. She would not be in. No help there.

I called Bangor back and spoke to Harold Conners. He was funny and kind. He said many people from my area were experiencing the same problem and to come to Bangor Friday morning. The little that could be done at the last minute was great and I am thankful. Leah A. Watson Dexter
