Spirit of the Kiwanis

On behalf of the Bangor Noon Kiwanis Club, I want to thank Ruth-Ellen Cohen for the fine article (BDN, Dec. 28) dedicated to Arthur Eaton Jr. who passed away Dec. 27. He was a loyal and dedicated Kiwanian since 1950 and he spent countless hours raising money for kids in the area. Artie was a Kiwanian hero to members — a role model and mentor to many.

Artie never allowed anything to slow him down in Kiwanis — not even poor health. He was a gentle, kind, compassionate human being who gave his all to his community and especially to kids. He taught all of us the true meaning of loving your community. He wanted our community to be a safe, secure, happy and healthy place for kids and made sure his voice was heard in many arenas.

There will never be another Arthur G. Eaton Jr., but his impact on Kiwanis, our community, our schools, our hospitals, and most importantly our kids, will be felt for years to come. He had Santa Claus in his heart year-round — the best way to honor and remember him is to volunteer your time and energy to your favorite cause.

Artie’s spirit will live on in Kiwanis. Jane Searles President Bangor Noon Kiwanis
