WATERVILLE – Mandy Berry made two free throws with 21 seconds left Sunday to break a 52-52 tie lift Thomas College to a 55-53 women’s basketball victory over the University of Maine-Presque Isle.

Heather Farrell tossed in 24 points for the Terriers while Betsy Pratt contributed 16 points and eight rebounds.

Rachel Underwood scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Owls while Lori Morrow scored 12 and Lisa Dolley 10.

Women’s hockey

Friars, Huskies beat Black Bears

At Orono, Providence and Northeastern picked up women’s hockey victories over the University of Maine over the weekend. The Friars downed the Black Bears 8-2 Saturday, while the Huskies blanked UMaine 2-0 on Sunday.

In Saturday’s game, Providence racked up five first-period goals to take the victory. Jackie Tamsin scored two goals for the winners, who outshot the Bears 30-20.

Alison Lorenz and Raffi Wolf scored for Maine.

On Sunday, Dawn Froats registered 23 saves for the Bears, who were stymied by NU’s Erika Silva.

Hilary Witt and Brooke White scored for the Huskies.
