Minutemen upset George Stevens

MILLINOCKET – Brooke Legassey notched a game-high 16 points as the Stearns Minutemen upset previously unbeaten George Stevens Academy 59-43 in schoolgirl basketball action Tuesday night.

The GSA Eagles of Blue Hill were ranked No. 2 in the most recent Heal Point Standings and the Minutemen were ranked No. 14. In their first meeting, GSA won by 40 points.

Nola Boynton added 11 points for Stearns. Legassey grabbed 10 rebounds and Jennifer Raymond pulled down nine boards. Pam Pelletier had five steals to go with nine points and the Minutemen committed just two of their eight turnovers in the second half.

Michala Bunton led GSA with 15 points and while Nikki Allen added 11. Lora Trenkle, GSA’s leading scorer, was sick and did not play in the game. The Eagles had 16 turnovers.

At Alfond Arena in Orono, Griffin Dill scored two goals and added an assist as the Indians rolled to the win.

Tom Graffam, Josh Buzzell, Ryan Bernard and Ray Vachon tallied goals for 5-5 Old Town. Matt Dupuis had two assists and Buzzell added an assist. Jeff Turcotte stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced.

Foxcroft Academy’s Brandon Johnson scored a goal off an assist from Bob Orton. Nick Pressey and Zach Brooks combined for 19 saves on 25 shots for the 1-10 Ponies.

At East Machias, Nate Davis poured in 27 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Raiders cruised by the Pandas.

Bobby Richardson scored 18 points. Nick Reynolds had eight rebounds and eight blocks, and Danny Smith tallied six steals.

Matthew Corbin paced Lee Academy with 10 points.

Shane Alley led the Royals with 22 points, closely followed by Alvin Beal with 20. Dan Redman contributed 14 points, and Dwight Alley had 10.

Josh Sargent powered the Tigers of East Sullivan with 22 points, Mike Hardy added 15, and Royce Blackwood 12.
