So now it is New Hampshire, by way of a professor from the University of New Hampshire (BDN, Jan. 15-16), who is telling Maine people how “the way life should be” in Maine.
It is obvious when one travels across the Maine line into Massachusetts and New Hampshire that they have lost “the way life should be,” which apparently leads them to believe they have the best idea how Maine should keep our way of life and/or change it. It is also obvious they are using the endangered species approach, by way of the wolf and salmon and sustainable forests, to make northern and eastern Maine the way they want it to be — a vast expanse for their recreation.
But, as the professor points out, don’t worry about the economic impact of listing the Atlantic salmon as an endangered species because “given federal assistance for economic dislocation” we would see a “real boon to Maine’s future.” Someone should remind him that Mainers prefers the way life here as compared to “federal assistance for economic dislocation.” Harry Whelden Orono
