Myers, Mayol spark Bowdoin upset of Colby

BRUNSWICK – Lauren Myers scored seven points and Jessie Mayol five in overtime as the Bowdoin Polar Bears upset Colby 68-58 in overtime in women’s basketball action Tuesday night.

Kristi Royer scored with 18 seconds left to tie the game at 52 and send it into overtime. Royer finished with 20 points and nine rebounds.

Myers posted 17 points, and Mayol added 11.

Erin Cole-Karagory topped the Mules from Waterville with 15 points, Sarah Walsh added 12 points, and nine rebounds, and Carli Parisella had 11 points.

At Standish, Carolyn Brown hit three 3-pointers during the first 4:37 of the game as St. Joseph’s bolted out to a 17-1 lead and never looked back.

Brown and Kate Burrell finished with 11 points each and Stacey Gelinas contributed 10 points and three steals. Mary Gill had five assists and six rebounds, both team-highs.

Vanessa LeBlond’s 10 points, Stacey Ryan’s nine points, six rebounds and three steals and Kate Lawler’s game-high seven rebounds and three blocks led MMA.

At Presque Isle, Jerry Burnes scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half and Shane Durost hit a layup with nine seconds left to extend the lead to three and pace Northern Maine Technical College.

NMTC outscored Eastern Maine Tech 52-40 in the second half to overcome a nine-point halftime deficit.

Dave Jellson had 20 points and Ryan Michaud had 14 for the winners, who also received 12 from Jeremy Ouellette. Branden Wade grabbed 12 rebounds and Burnes dished out eight assists.

Nate Cyr’s 30 points, Nick Wiberg’s 19, James Osborne’s 16 and Brad Galley’s 15 led EMTC, which had beaten NMTC 87-84 in overtime on Dec. 1.
