Heartless words

I have to take a few moments out of my retirement time to respond to John Bernard Smith of Lubec who wrote that uninformed, insensitive and ridiculous letter in the BDN of Jan. 25.

If Smith compares a tragic death of a young human being to a highway road kill, he should have his head examined because something is wrong with his brain. He certainly is not showing any sign of sympathy toward that family who lost their son in a freak accident. Lew Despres Eagle Lake

Inevitable, detestable, disgusting, heinous roadkill shrine. Such are the words John Bernard Smith used to imply that we in the northern tier are so stupid that once again we need to be told what to do. I do not know the victims, family or friends, but rest assured we already know what will be done and we surely did not need his heartless words of wisdom. Daniel L. Morin Madawaska
