Allen, Civiello lift Colby Mules past Polar Bears

WATERVILLE – The Colby White Mules outscored Bowdoin 16-0 over the final five minutes Tuesday night to earn a 69-52 New England Small College Athletic Conference men’s basketball victory at Wadsworth Gym.

Colby had taken a 44-32 lead with 14:04 remaining. Bowdoin rallied to close the gap to 53-52 with 5:12 to go, then the Mules clamped down.

Ken Allen led Colby with 16 points. Jake Civiello, Brian Hansen and Pat Gallagher added 12 apiece.

Hugh Coleman poured in 22 points for the Polar Bears, and Chris Ranslow had 12.

MMA 57, UM-Machias 53 Vanessa LeBlond scores 1,000th

At Machias, Vanessa LeBlond scored 14 points and hauled in 16 rebounds to lead Maine Maritime Academy over the University of Maine-Machias.

LeBlond also surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career, becoming the first MMA woman to do so. Stacey Ryan topped the Mariners with 16 points, Monica Locke added 13, and Lindsay Smith had 10.

Dawn Novy powered the Clippers with a game-high 19 points and Angela Robb posted a dozen.

At Fort Kent, Julie Marquis poured in 28 points and recorded six steals and five assists to lead the Bengals over New Brunswick Bible Institute.

Nikki Brown scored 14 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and had four blocks. Tracie Hobbs had 10 boards and Amy Levesque netted 10 points and passed out six assists for the the Bengals.

Trish Matula paced NBBI with 22 points.
