Coexist with moose

The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife may be considering a non-permit moose hunt. Pressures for an unrestricted harvest of moospermit moose hunt. Pressures for an unrestricted harvest of moose in heavily populated areas is coming from those who believe this is the best solution to preventing car-moose collisions. Some of these areas are not currently in moose permit zones.

If the DIFW approves such a hunt, it should be by the permit lottery system, even if it means creating a temporary zone. An unrestrictive firearms harvest is unnecessary. The DIFW doesn’t use this approach where there is an overpopulation of deer, so why use it for moose?

I am looking forward to hearing where the DIFW stands on all of this. Meanwhile, I believe killing more moose isn’t the answer. Drivers need to slow down and drive defensively. Moose and drivers can coexist. Wayne L. Pruett

Support UMaine men

I have had season tickets to men’s basketball now at the UMaine campus in Orono for over 20 years and I feel that this year’s team is probably the most talented and exciting team I have seen.

Feb. 27 will be the last home game and hopefully we will have a huge turnout because this will be the last game we will see the senior class such as our own Corey Thibodeau. Hopefully he will enjoy winning their league plus hopefully go on to the Big Dance, the final 64.

I am in hope that you can publish this letter so area people will attend this last home game and watch Thibodeau and other seniors. Parrie Willette

Uniforms for Cohen

Congratulations to coach Stephanie Crane and the William S. Cohen School A team cheerleaders for their first place win at the Fifth Street Invitational Cheering Competition.

It was a true demonstration of Pride in Excellence (the motto displayed on the front of the school). As a very proud parent sitting in the stands, it was disappointing to overhear a conversation regarding our uniforms. The problem, they still say “Garland Street.”

I understand money plays a factor in everything, but it has been over two years since the name was changed. Although I am referring to the cheerleaders, the same goes for all the other sports as well, they need new uniforms. So come on Bangor School Department, get with the program. Let’s give the kids who work hard and display Pride in Excellence the look to go with it. Tracy Sutherland
