Lawmakers in the Senate and House are debating legislation to restore full health care access for all retired career servicemen. I urge our senators and representatives to consider the importance of keeping a promise and vote in favor of this bill.

I am one of those veterans who made a career of the military service, a decision giving much consideration to the promise of health care for life, if I served 20 years or more. I fulfilled my obligation by serving 21 1/2 years, but the government has not kept the promise of health care for life. Instead, our health care at military medical facilities has been terminated in favor of an HMO called Tricare so complicated and ineffective I hesitate to use it. Lawmakers have the opportunity to correct this injustice. Alton Shedd Lincoln
