BANGOR – After four tries this season, the Mount View girls basketball team has yet to figure out how to get past Camden-Rockport’s pressing defense, stop star guard Megan Cressler, and beat the Windjammers in a game.

Cressler poured in 29 points to lead No. 1 Camden-Rockport to a 61-30 victory over the No. 4 Mustangs of Mount View and lift the ‘Jammers to the Eastern Maine Class B final game for the second year in a row.

Camden-Rockport, now 19-1, will face No. 3 Houlton in the regional final Saturday at 2:05 p.m.

Mount View finishes its season at 14-6.

The Windjammers topped Mount View twice during the regular season and once in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference title game. Cressler, last year’s Class B tournament MVP, said Camden-Rockport didn’t waver in its game plan.

“We just know each other so well,” Cressler said. “We know what we’re gonna do. We just have to be intense and play our game as much as possible.”

Camden-Rockport’s game is the full-court press. The ‘Jammers used it to force 38 turnovers while committing 23 of their own. The difference was that Camden-Rockport was able to convert on more of them.

“We didn’t do that bad a job [with turnovers]. I thought their shooting was better than ours. We didn’t shoot very well,” Mount View coach Charlie Wing said.

The Windjammers had a 22-15 lead at halftime, but baskets from Jessica Trundy, Danielle Mayer,and Kim Stephens – after a Cressler score – helped the Mustangs cut the lead to 24-21.

But Mount View would hit only two more field goals in the quarter, while Camden-Rockport went on a 13-4 run to put the game out of reach.

Point guard Anna Sommo scored 10 points and tallied seven assists. Cressler had seven steals and six rebounds to go with her scoring effort.

Stephens led the Mustangs with 13 points and nine rebounds.
