As I was watching the local news on Feb. 28, I saw Rep. John Baldacci making a speech at a local school telling young children to welcome all immigrants coming to this country.

We have enough diversity in this country. I would like to see the quality of life stay as it is. If more immigrants are allowed we will become overcrowded like Florida, California and some other states which have become overrun with immigrants. Crime is very high in those states.

I would like to know why the U.S. government wants to lower the quality of life for our future generations of children. I don’t see why we should take our hard-earned money to pay for social services for these immigrants. We pay enough now for Americans on welfare assistance. Shirley Lawson Eddington
