On Feb. 29 you published a commentary by Bob Croce about keeping the Maine moose hunt in October. I am one of the many people who does not hunt moose. My opinion of moose hunting is not important as it is the law of the land and is generally accepted.

However, since moose hunting’s inception in 1980, I have felt the Legislature and the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife have ignored the fact that there are those who are attracted to this state and bring in vast sums of money simply because they want to view and photograph moose. They come in September.

I am appalled that the suggestion has come up to listen to the whining of a few so-called moose hunters who were unable to bag their critter during October, and now wish to get the beast during the rut and hot weather. What a waste of good meat; what a waste of potential income. Anne Howe Thorndike
