PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The University of Maine baseball team swept three games from Pace University, winning 11-4 and 7-6 on Saturday and 14-6 on Sunday.

In Saturday’s first game, the Bears ran away with the win with eight runs in the fifth by making the most of four hits, an error, a wild pitch, and a hit batsman. Mike Livulpi fueled the rally with a three-run triple. That came after he had already singled and scored on Mike Ross’ two-run single.

In the second game, the Bears managed to edge the Setters by racking up six runs early.

Down 2-0 in the second, UMaine scored six runs off five hits. Keith Genest walked, Quin Peel singled, and both scored on Livulpi’s single. After Jamie Barrett doubled to left, he and Livulpi scored on Jon Hambleton’s double. Joe Drapeau reached on a fielder’s choice, and Ross scored Drapeau and Hambleton with a double.

The Setters who were paced by Mike Bohlander, who singled and homered for four RBIs.

Eric Johnson picked up his first win against three losses, pitching four innings of four-hit ball, giving up three earned runs, walking three and striking out two.

On Sunday, Pace jumped ahead 4-0 after two innings with RBIs coming from Bohlander, who hit a three-run homer in the first and had an RBI double in the second.

Maine responded and took the lead for good with a five-run third highlighted by Brett Ouellette’s RBI triple and Ross’ three-run homer. The Bears kept the intensity with a four-run rally in the fourth that was fueled by Drapeau, who smacked a three-run homer and finished the game with a double, two singles, and four RBIs.

Hambleton had three singles, three runs scored, and an RBI for Maine, while Livulpi added two singles, and Jamie Barrett had two singles and an RBI.

Maine reliever Rich Laganiere went 3 1/3 innings, allowing no runs and one hit while striking out four to pick up the win.

Husson wins one of four

Husson College won one out of four of its games over the weekend.

Wilmington College of Delaware downed the Braves 11-1 and 16-2 on Saturday, and Dominican College (N.Y.) won 2-1 on Sunday, before Husson came back to beat Castleton State (Vt.) 12-2 in the second game.

On Saturday at Wilmington, Del., the Braves were undone by Wilmington’s 11-hit attack, led by Steve Hershman, who had a solo homer in the third and an RBI triple to help in the six-run rally in the fifth.

In the second game, it was Randy Hotts who powered Wilmington’s 13-run attack, as he roped a three-run homer. Kyndrich Doggett had two doubles and a homer for four RBIs.

Soucie and John McGlinn both collected two singles for Husson.

On Sunday at Orangeburg, N.Y., Husson’s Dave Dostie went the distance, giving up three hits and six walks while striking out nine, but Dominican prevailed. Both runs in the first and second were scored by runners who walked and were later driven in on singles – both times on two-out pitches.
