BANGOR – Husson’s James Zukowski pitched a five-hitter in the first game Monday, but UMaine-Farmington’s Jeff Bird and Mike Fullerton combined on a five-hit shutout in the second game as the teams split a Maine Athletic Conference doubleheader.

The Braves won 8-1, then Beavers posted a 4-0 shutout.

In Game 1, Husson’s Tony Creek hit two singles and a double with four RBIs. Aaron Largay hit a double and two singles (three RBIs).

Mike King added a double and two singles behind Zukowski, who struck out six.

Randy Potts knocked in the run for UM-Farmington with a double and a single.

In Game 2, a single by UM-Farmington’s Mike Regan plated one of three sixth-inning runs.

Dave Dostie and Jeremy Rocheford combined to scatter four hits for the Braves.

At Middlebury, Vt., Eric McCollom allowed one unearned run in 6 2/3 innings as the Panthers won.

Matt Simard had three hits and Jonathan Lord two for Colby.

St. Joseph’s sweeps Thomas

At Ward Field in Standish, the Monks piled up 13 hits in each game while sweeping a doubleheader from the Terriers.

St. Joseph’s won the first game 11-3 and took the second game 15-4.

In the opener, Steve Osborne plated four runs with two home runs and two singles to lead the Monks. Jesse Lacasse hit a home run and two singles with three RBIs, while Ben Gosselin added two doubles, a single and two RBIs.

Travis Hotham paced Thomas of Waterville with a double and two singles. Mike Ferreira homered and singled (2 RBIs).

In the nightcap, Dave Quintal homered, doubled and a singled (three RBIs), setting a school record with his 167th career hit. Gosselin added two singles and three RBIs for St. Joseph’s.

Ferreira had a single and two RBIs for Thomas.

At Gorham, the Huskies scored five runs in the eighth inning.

Andy Lang tied the game with an RBI single and later scored on an error. Pat Toomey paced USM with a double and two singles. Darrin Daniels singled three times.

Scott Beattie paced Wheaton with a home run, double and single.

Softball

Lyndon sweeps UM-Farmington

At Farmington, Kathleen Keating pitched a three-hitter in the opener and Catherine Paul collected three singles in the second game as Lyndon State swept a twinbill.

The Hornets won the first game 2-1 and took the nightcap 11-3.

In the opener, Keating outdueled UMaine-Farmington’s Becky Marden, who allowed only three hits. Paul doubled for Lyndon, which scored two unearned runs in the sixth. Becky Roak singled twice for the Beavers.

In the second game, Lyndon State had 10 hits, including a double and a single by Bartlett. Roak singled twice for UMF behind loser Krystal LeClerc.
