Adams RBI helps Calais prevail

CALAIS – The Blue Devils’ Doug Adams knocked an RBI single with the bases loaded in the seventh to score the winning run in Calais’ 11-10 victory over Houlton in high school baseball action on Wednesday.

Chris Leavitt hit a double and a single while Chris LaPointe added two singles and an RBI for Calais.

Ben Weston contributed a double, single and an RBI, while Josh Berry tallied two singles for Houlton.

At Van Buren, pitcher Zack Cote went the distance, throwing 62 pitches with 45 strikes and 17 balls.

Eric Ayotte had two singles, a double and two RBIs for Van Buren while Chanel Wright contributed two singles and three RBIs.

Mike Andrews of Fort Fairfield had two singles and an RBI while Travis Blier had the Tigers’ only other hit with a single.

At Fort Kent, Chad Soucie scattered two hits and struck out 12 over six innings and helped his own cause with two singles and a double as the Warriors cruised.

Mitch Wakem added two singles and a double, while Kasey Boucher hit a single and tallied three RBIs for Fort Kent.

Ryan Paradis and Jeremy Labbe paced the Wisdom Pioneers with a single each.

At Madawaska, pitcher Derik Patten contributed a home run and a single in the Eagles’ victory.

David King added two doubles while Nick Mauro hit a double and single. Pete Bradley tallied two singles.

Derrick Cooper paced Madawaska with a double, triple and single, while Bryan Daigle hit a double and two singles. Eliot Hebert contributed a double and a single and Sam Cyr added two singles.

At Danforth, the Southern Aroostook Warriors scored five runs in the fifth on a double, three singles, and two errors to break open a tight game and notch the win.

Rob Betschner doubled twice for four RBIs and Matt Malone hit a two-run single for the Warriors.

Jim Zugelder led the Vikings with a double and two singles. Josh Frye hit an RBI single.

At Eastport, junior Cliff Urquhart hit for the cycle and helped break things open with a grand slam in the third en route to seven RBIs.

The Tigers erupted for 22 runs in a third inning featuring seven hits, six walks, four passed balls, three balks, two errors, and a hit batter. Larry Bowen doubled and singled, while Teddy Cummings had a two-run double.

At Fort Kent, pitcher Kelly Cyr struck out eight, walked two and hit a double and single in the Pioneers’ victory.

Nicole Saucier hit three singles, Jennifer Voisine added two doubles and a single and Ruth Melvin hit a double and a single for the Fort Kent Warriors.

At Jonesport, Rebecca Emerson pitched a complete game for her fourth win of the season and had a triple and a double to help pace the offense for Jonesport-Beals.

Angela Merchant had three singles and a double, Crystal Emerson had four singles and three RBIs, and Naomi Chandler had three singles and four RBIs for the Royalettes. Carrie Woodward had three singles and Lillian Durkee hit a solo home run.

Sarah Hussey paced the Bulldogs with three singles and Jenny Grant hit two. Starting pitcher Katie McDonald left the game after being hit with a line drive in the first.
