FORT KENT – Chanel Wright singled, stole second and third and scored the game-winning run on a botched rundown in the seventh inning as Van Buren posted a 5-3 high school baseball win over Fort Kent Monday.

A wild pitch produced an insurance run later in the seventh.

Lefty Phil Smith pitched a five-hitter to notch the win, striking out 14 and walking three.

Wright had two singles and scored twice.

Fort Kent righty Chad Soucy hurled a four-hitter, striking out 12 and walking one. Corey Bourgoin had a double and a sacrifice fly for Fort Kent and A.J. Slavinsky had double.

At Houlton, Chris Lavaway struck out 12 batters and walked one en route to a five-hitter as his Wildcats downed Houlton for the season sweep.

The ‘Cats jumped on Houlton early with five runs on three walks, four singles, and two passed balls in the first.

Mark Yaeger doubled and singled to pace Presque Isle’s offense and Lavaway added two singles. Brad Boyles hit a triple.

Paul Cain singled twice for the Shiretowners.

At Eastport, the Woodland Dragons were outhit 14 to nine, but scored six unearned runs – the difference in the game.

Rick Romanelli and Derek Bailey each hit a double and a single. Marlin Lutz singled twice for the Dragons.

Cliff Urquhart had two doubles and a single for the Tigers. Ben Maloney hit three singles.

At Limestone, Nick Hersey connected for a single, a double and a triple as the Warriors of Dyer Brook cruised to the win.

Jordan Shields added a double and two singles and knocked in two runs for Southern Aroostook while Gabe Gordon tripled and singled twice. Nate Hardy and Rob Deschaines each doubled and singled twice and Matt McCluskey hit two singles.

Derek Patten doubled and Ryan O’Neal hit an RBI single for Limestone.

Five pitchers worked an inning each en route to a one-hitter for Fort Fairfield, which successfully rested its staff for three remaining games this week. Mike Andrews contributed three singles and four runs, Tim Blier hit a single and drove in three runs while Aaron Ireland hit a two-run single.

At Houlton, Sarah Belden belted a two-run double in the decisive nine-run third-inning rally and Bre Norsworthy and Ashley Putnam contributed two-run singles as Presque Isle triumphed.

Jessica Martin and Belden each doubled and singled and drove in two runs for the winners. Norsworthy and Amanda Belden had two singles each. Norsworthy had two RBIs and Belden had one.

Sarah Beasley had a triple and two singles for Houlton while Holly Thibodeau and Kristen Child had three singles each. Child knocked in two runs.

Chantel Gagnon rapped two singles for the Panthers while Angel Rideout doubled.
