FORT FAIRFIELD – Jim LaPointe’s one-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Fort Fairfield Tigers to a 5-4 schoolboy baseball victory over the Van Buren Crusaders Wednesday.

Jon Helstrom’s two-run double in the sixth got the Tigers on the scoreboard. Fort Fairfield’s Brandon Traknis (3-1) outdueled Zach Cote and pitched a four-hitter while striking out nine and walking four. He also led the offense with three singles, while Ben Arato had two.

After a leadoff walk, a single, and an out, Helstrom ripped a two-run double and later scored on a two-out fielding error. In the seventh, Arato hit a one-out single, Traknis singled, and both advanced two extra bases on an outfield error on the single. With Traknis at third, two intentional walks loaded the bases for LaPointe, who singled in the winning run.

Mike Sirois led Van Buren with two singles and Chris Lajoie hit a two-run single in the fourth.

At East Machias, the Raiders jumped out to an early lead on a two-run home run from Nick Reynolds in the first inning and ran away to the win.

Washington Academy combined seven singles with six walks to blow the game open with a 10-run second inning.

Reynolds added a double, single and finished the game with five RBIs. Jeremy Look added two singles and two RBIs. Four Raider pitchers combined to limit the Tigers to one hit.

Larry Bowen’s single was the lone hit for Shead of Eastport.

At East Sullivan, Greg Ingalls roped a two-run home run and a solo homer to fuel the Tigers’ win.

Ingalls also added a single for Sumner of East Sullivan, while Royce Blackwood collected three singles and two RBIs.

Seth Bernier singled and tripled for three RBIS for the Knights of Harrington, while Jesse Grover had two singles and scored four runs.

At Caribou, the Vikings scored the tying run on a wild pitch and Seth McCrossin delivered the game-winner with a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Jerry Shanahan went the distance, striking out 13 and walking four, for Caribou. He also doubled, singled and knocked in a run. Tristen Noyes tripled and singled twice while Justin Selfridge hit two singles.

Jared Desantis slapped two singles and drove in a run for ScMillinocket. Ryan O’Donnell singled twice and pitched a complete game, striking out six and walking four.

At Fort Fairfield, Jessica Barnes’ three-run triple in the first inning helped the Tigers hold off the Crusaders.

Fort Fairfield’s Melody Belanger hit a double and a single for two RBIs. Kiersten McCrea added a double and a single.

Kyla LaPlante paced Van Buren with two singles, a double and an RBI. Nicole Corbin hit three singles.

At East Machias, Diana Bourdeau allowed one hit, striking out four and walking two in five innings as the Raiders cruised.

Bourdeau helped her own cause with a double, a single and three RBIs. Erica Dennison drove in four runs on a double and two singles for Washington Academy. Charlene Gaddis tripled and singled for four RBIs.

Leslie Bassett singled for the Tigers of Eastport.

At Caribou, Sabrina Butler hit three singles and drove in two runs as the Vikings registered their first win.

Sam Grier, Ashley Monahan, Tiffany Miller and Leh Drew added one single apiece for Caribou.

Schenck of East Millinocket’s Alicia Cram doubled, singled and drove in a run. Rachel Larlee hit two singles and had an RBI. Rebecca Stratton singled twice and Rihana Porter had an RBI single.

At East Sullivan, the Knights of Harrington took advantage of two passed balls and an error to avenge their only loss of the season.

Ashley Woodward pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks for Narraguagus. Raquel Oliver singled twice for the Knights’ only hits.

Jill Osier took the loss for the Tigers despite a 10-strikeout, three-walk effort. Rachel Philio hit a double in the fifth inning. Her sister, first baseman Meghan Philio, and shortstop Elizabeth Young took part in a triple play. With runners on first and second, Young caught a line drive, stepped on second base and threw the ball to Philio for the final out.

At Fort Kent, the visiting Wildcats took advantage of four Fort Kent errors in the second by scoring 10 runs, five of them unearned.

The big inning was the difference as the Warriors answered with seven runs over the next four innings. Melissa Pelletier hit a three-run homer in the fourth and doubled for Presque Isle. Jessica Martin had two doubles while Arikea Levasseur and Jessica Miller each singled twice.

Jennifer Voisine hit a solo home run in the third and McKenzie Boucher had a double, single, and one RBI for the Warriors.
