PORTLAND – The University of Southern Maine Huskies clinched a spot in the championship round of the NCAA Division III New England Regional Baseball Tournament championship round after winning two games over the weekend at Hadlock Field.
USM posted a 12-5 victory over Trinity (Conn.) on Saturday and claimed a 6-5 win over Bridgewater State (Mass.) on Sunday. Coach Ed Flaherty’s Huskies need only one win today over Bridgewater to advance to the NCAA Division III College World Series in Appleton, Wis.
Monday’s championship round will be played in Gorham as Hadlock Field is not available.
On Saturday, Darrin Daniels blasted a bases-loaded double to plate three runs, while Tyler Delorme, Craig Gureckis and Peter L’Italien each hit singles for the Huskies. Pat Toomey also added a double for USM.
On Sunday, Delorme slammed a three-run homer to snap a 3-3 tie as the Huskies defeated first-ranked Bridgewater State 6-5. Jason Dority added a double while Craig Gureckis added an RBI single for Southern Maine.
