Guptill powers Machias to win

MACHIAS – Tracy Guptill racked up three doubles, a triple and six RBIs to power the Machias Bulldogs to a 19-8 high school softball victory over the Woodland Dragons Monday.

Jordan Wood added a pair of doubles and a RBI for Machias.

For Woodland, Michaelene Seavey tripled and Kylie Snowman registered a single and two RBIs.

East Grand 31, Shead 15

At Eastport, the Vikings of Danforth erupted for 18 hits en route to the win.

Lindsay Faulkner paced the East Grand attack with a home run and Tara Cropley added a triple. Misha Whitney contributed a pair of singles and Becky Gilman had a double.

For Shead, Natalie Smith belted out two home runs. Charla Lingley added a triple and two doubles.

Royals, Mariners split

At Deer Isle, Mindy Douvarjo notched a three-run home run to help Deer Isle-Stonington earn a 14-9 win in the first game of a doubleheader, while Jonesport-Beals took the second game 11-5.

In the first game, Douvarjo added a triple. Misty Fifield recorded a double, two singles and two RBI, and Hollan Oliver hit three singles for the Mariners. Angela Merchant hit a triple, a double, a single and drove in two runs for Jonesport-Beals in the first game. Tricia Carver added three singles and two RBI.

In the second game, Carver hit two singles for the Royals. Rebecca Emerson notched three singles and Lilian Durkee singled twice, and both had an RBI.

Douvarjo hit a double and two singles for DI-Stonington. Jen Sadler doubled and singled.

Hampden takes two from PI

At Hampden, Jamie Wells struck out a total of 19 Wildcat batters over two games as Hampden Academy swept Presque Isle, winning the first game 7-1 and the second game 5-1.

In the second game, Wells helped herself with a two-run single in the fourth inning. Shannon Miller scored Presque Isle’s lone run.

In the first game, Wendy Butler’s two-run double and Kristina Spaulding’s two-run single blew open a close game for the Broncos in the fifth inning.

At Sherman Station, Erika Coyle blasted a double and a single and Meagan Cyr pounded out a pair of singles to lift the Howlers over the Cougars.

Morgan Anderson paced the Cougars with two doubles and a single. Lindsay Duffy added a double and a single.

At Ashland, Sara Oliver went 4-for-5 with a double and three singles as the Hawks rolled to the win.

Danielle Fitzpatrick doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs. Alicia Dwyer recorded two RBIs on three singles, and Sara Quint singled twice and doubled for Hodgdon.

Ashland’s Terri Bennett hit two singles and Leslie Bessey added a double.

Woodland 10, Machias 9

At Machias, Matt Lord hit three singles as the Dragons held off the Bulldogs.

Tony Alviar, Derek Bailey and Tyson Kneeland contributed two singles apiece for Woodland.

Machias’ Kevin Loughlin hit a three-run home run in the first inning and added a single. Jeff Copp notched three singles for the Bulldogs. Jarad Day and Todd Stevens hit two singles each.

At Ashland, Adam Bither’s two-run double helped lift the Hawks past the Hornets.

Chris Blanchette struck out seven and walked two in the three-hitter. Matt Day singled twice and drove in a run. Matt Allen hit two singles and David Stewart doubled and singled for Hodgdon.

Brandon Clark led Ashland with a two-run single in the bottom of the seven. Rustin Lovewell struck out seven and walked two in the loss.

East Grand sweeps Lubec

At Danforth, the Vikings racked up 31 hits over two games en route to the doubleheader sweep, taking the first game 22-2 and the second 28-0 as four pitchers held the Hornets without a hit.

In the second game, Chris Irish led the way with two triples and a single. Carl Dodge added a home run and a single, and Josh Frye pitched in with three singles. Jeremy Williams recorded his first win of the season with three innings of work and aided the cause with a double and three RBIs. Williams also pitched two innings in the first game. Jim Zugelder had a triple and a single.

In the first game, Chris Irish and Josh Fish paced the attack with a pair of singles and three RBIs apiece. Tim Irish contributed two singles and two RBIs, and Andrew Faulkner hit two doubles and a single.

Lubec’s Justin Moore hit a double and a single. Billy Gross doubled.

Royals take two from Mariners

At Deer Isle, Alvin Beal blasted a three-run homer and a single in the first game and a solo home run in the second game to lead Jonesport-Beals to a 18-7 victory in the opener and a 12-2 win in the nightcap.

In the second game, Beal sparked an eight-run Royal rally when he led off the fourth with a solo homer. Dan Redmond had a RBI double and D.R. Alley hit a RBI single during the inning. Matt Bryant contributed a pair of singles. Deer Isle-Stonington’s Josh Bolton pounded out two singles and Jason Weed registered a run-scoring single.

In the first game, Redmond recorded a three-run homer in the first and Beal knocked his three-run homer in the second to pace the Royals. Beal also had a single, and Jason Beal aided the cause with two singles and three RBIs.
