VAN BUREN – Chanel Wright smashed a three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning give Van Buren a 6-5 high school baseball win over Hodgdon Tuesday.

Pitcher Chris Smith recorded nine strikeouts for Van Buren, improving his recored to 7-0. Phil Smith hit a solo home run in the second and Zach Cote hit a two-run single in the third.

Hodgdon’s Chris Stewart notched an RBI double, and Brian Carton hit a single in the fourth that drove in a run.

At Madawaska, Marc Garcia went the distance, scattering three hits and fanning four, to lift the host Owls by Wisdom of St. Agatha in a mercy rule-shortened five-inning contest.

Madawaska backed Garcia with a 15-hit onslaught, highlighted by brothers Bryan and Alex Daigle. Bryan Daigle pounded out two singles and three RBIs and Alex Daigle added a double, single, and two RBIs. Eliot Hebert and Denis Cyr contributed two singles apiece.

Troy Guerette paced Wisdom with a run-scoring double. Andy Gervais and Brad Picard both singled.

James Macdonald added an RBI single and Chris Leavitt singled during the fourth. Footer finished the day with another single and Leavitt also had another single. Jeremy Dow recorded the complete-game victory, striking out five and walking just one.

At Sherman Station, Nate Conley scattered six hits, striking out 11 and walking three, as Bangor Christian beat Katahdin 8-3 in the first game.

In the nightcap, Katahdin’s Lance Cunningham and Doug Atkinson scattered four hits over six innings as the Cougars upended Highview Christian of Charleston 13-3.

In the opener, Tyler Wilson’s RBI single keyed a tie-breaking two-run rally in the third and Noah Sargent belted a three-run double in the four-run fourth.

Sargent also had a pair of singles and drove in four runs, Wilson had three singles and Matt Conley singled twice.

Chris McNally’s double and RBI singles by Jerrick Hanson and Chris Robinson paced Katahdin.

In the second game, Chris Robinson drove in four runs with a two-run triple and two singles as Katahdin triumphed.

Josh Roy doubled and singled for Katahdin with Travis Robinson, Justin Stevens and Mike Lane contributing two base hits each. Stevens had two RBIs while Roy, Travis Robinson and Lane had one each.

At Sherman Station, Lari Sobey and Renee Mick paced the Patriots at the mound and at the plate as Bangor Christian posted a doubleheader sweep of the host Cougars.

The Patriots captured the first game 5-3 and won the second game 8-4.

Sobey earned a complete game win in the first game, striking out 10, and relieved Mick in the sixth inning of the second game. Sobey also had a double and a single in the first game, and Mick poked a key RBI single during the Patriots’ three-run fifth in the first game.

In the first game, Meredith Moores contributed to the Bangor Christian offense with a double and single.

Morgan Anderson led Katahdin with two doubles.

In the second game, Lisa Phinney plated three singles to highlight the Patriot charge. Nicole Pelletier and Danielle Miller each had a pair of singles.
