Doug Cotler, who has been described as “one of the premier composers and singers of Jewish music in the country,” will perform this month, hosted by Congregation Beth El.

Cotler, a native of the Los Angeles area, received a Grammy Award in 1984 for the song “Manhunt,” which was featured in the movie “Flashdance.”

He has performed with artists such as John Denver, Jerry Jeff Walker and Mason Williams. His symphony “The Golem” was performed by the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra.

Cotler’s professional career started at age 14, and he has since recorded five original Jewish albums. His breakthrough album, “Listen,” includes the hit “Standing on the Shoulders.”

His style ranges from Jewish bluegrass to adult contemporary to humorous.

“Doug represents the cutting edge of what new Jewish music is all about,” Rabbi Larry Milder said. “It’s a rare treat for the Jewish community and the broader community to find out what Jewish music is like.”

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. June 18 in the Beth El sanctuary. Tickets are $5.
