BELFAST – Abe Dougal’s leadoff homer in the third inning ignited a 13-run scoring burst by Waldo County and the Wildcats roared to a 17-0 American Legion baseball victory over Orono Tuesday night.

Mike MacDonald backed up the offensive burst by tossing a one-hitter with six strikeouts against the previously unbeaten Twins.

Also in the third inning, Dougal notched an RBI single, Ben Relyea ripped a two-run homer and a single, and Aaron Tripp posted a triple, single, and an RBI.

Dougal, the Wildcats’ shortstop, added a two-run triple in the fourth and also sparkled defensively. Pat Fitzpatrick had two singles and an RBI.

The Twins’ lone hit was a double by Brad Boyles in the fifth inning.

Bangor, Trenton split

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Bangor lefthander Jeremy Karam three-hit the Trenton Acadians for an 8-1 victory in the first game, but the Acadians answered in the second with a 13-10 victory.

Karam struck out 10 and walked one and was backed early with a five-run first courtesy of an Andy Sullivan two-run double and a Travis Brooker two-run single.

Karam helped out with an RBI single. Karam and Sullivan each had two hits. Tyler Balombini-Goddard had an RBI single for Trenton.

In the second game, the Acadians loaded the bases in the seventh on three Bangor errors and then Jason Weed and Balombini-Goddard hit back-to-back two-run singles.

Balombini-Goddard finished with three singles. Pete Collier chipped in with a double, single and two RBIs and Jon Lewandowski singled twice.

Jim Shea turned in a 4-for-4 effort for Bangor with a double, three singles and an RBI. Ryan Worcester was 3-for-3 with three singles, Brooker singled twice and drove in two runs, Karam slammed a two-run triple and Shawn Bouchard added a two-run double.

Bouchard had to leave in the fifth after his left elbow was smacked by a bat on a follow-through swing by a Trenton batter.
