Orono-Veazie edges Brewer in nine innings

HERMON – Max Winter singled in Dan Taft from second base in the bottom of the ninth to give Orono-Veazie a 4-3 win over Brewer in a Little League All-Star game for 9- and 10-year-olds on Saturday. The game started on Friday night but spanned two days due to a Friday thunderstorm.

Seth Dwyer earned the pitching win by holding Brewer scoreless and to just one hit in his 5 2/3-inning relief stint. Dwyer struck out 13 and walked three. Winter struck out nine and allowed no hits in 3 1/3 innings and paced the offense with three singles and a triple. Taft, Colin Bates and Aaron Healy rapped two singles each.

Mike Kotredes had the lone hit for Brewer, a bunt single in the eighth inning.

At Hermon on Saturday, Cameron Wadleigh pitched a no-hitter, striking out 11, as Bucksport rolled.

Eddie Robbins recorded three singles and two RBIs for Bucksport. Brandon Blair hit two singles and knocked in two runs, Jon Pelletier hit a double, a triple and three RBIs, and Lucas Marks notched a double.

Brandon Randall and Michael Armstrong scored Hermon’s runs.

At Hermon on Saturday, Bangor East pitcher John Cox held Bangor West to two hits and recorded eight strikeouts.

Kyle Gallant and Sam Martin led Bangor East with a double and a single apiece. Cox, Chris Ingraham, Riley Masters and Mack Susi each contributed a single.

Christian Larochelle and Josh Young a single apiece for Bangor West.

Coastal 12, Holbrook 2

At Hermon on Sunday, Shawn Hilts came on to pitch with two out in the second inning and didn’t allow a baserunner beyond first base the rest of the way as Coastal earned a five-inning win.

Jeremy Dunham doubled, singled and knocked in four runs for Coastal while Collin Ciomei doubled and singled and drove in three.

Nick Smith’s double was the lone hit for Holbrook.

At Hermon on Sunday, Nick Linscott drilled a triple and a single as Millinocket earned the victory.

Justin Pelkey added two doubles for Millinocket while Tom Jones doubled and Jared Manzo singled.

Adam Treadwell hit two singles for Glenburn. Jonathan Gagnon tripled.

At Hermon on Sunday, Josh Murchison tripled, singled and drove in the winning run in the top of the sixth inning for Lincoln.

Derek Libbey struck out 10 to post the pitching win.

Pat MacAleer doubled for Orono-Veazie.

At Hermon on Sunday, Bangor West’s Ryan Larochelle and Christian Larochelle combined to strike out 12 Bucksport batters.

Aaron Bailey lashed a two-run triple for Bangor West. He also hit a single. Ian Edwards added two singles and Pat Bolduc hit a single.

Lucas Marks notched a double and a single for Bucksport. John Pelletier recorded a double, and Cameron Wadleigh and Eddie Robbins hit a single apiece for Bucksport.

At Lincolnville on Saturday, Wade Oliver smacked two home runs and a single and drove in four runs for Rockland in a District 2 playoff game.

Oliver hit a two-run homer in the first and a added a solo blast in the fifth. Ben Sturks tripled in the third and Chris O’Hara and David Benner each hit a single for Rockland.

Matt Nickerson and catcher Sean Johnson singled for Waldo County.

At Hodgdon, Calais pitcher Michael Guthrie struck out 13 Border batters to give Calais the win.

Pat Ellis carried Calais by notching two singles. Matt Johnson singled.

Tyler Schools cranked a two-run home run in the fourth inning for Border. Micah Carton and Jordan Swim hit two singles apiece and Matthew Anderson recorded a single for Border.

At Mansfield Stadium, Millinocket got four two-run singles – from Ryan Bouchard, Andrew Eaton, Matt Wark and Mark Madore – in an eight-run fourth-inning binge.

Bouchard tossed a three-hitter, striking out three and walking four, for Millinocket. Derek DiFrederico hit a double and a single while Matt Barnett and Bouchard had two singles apiece.

Corey Archer singled twice for Hermon. Ed Meeks singled.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Nathan Faulstick had a no-hitter for 6 1/3 innings and Orono-Veazie rolled to a victory.

Alex Means rapped three singles for Orono Veazie while Matt Bishop stroked two singles, including a two-run base hit in the first inning. Andrew Otis and Lance Cowan each had two singles.

Jason Huntley broke up the no-hitter with a single for Hampden. Cliff Gardner added an RBI single.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Andrew Patterson sparked a six-run fourth-inning with a two-run double as Brewer topped Coastal.

Patterson, Wade Hopkins and Kevin McAvoy contributed a single and a double apiece for Brewer. Dan Hiltz smacked a single and a double for Coastal. Will Rosenthal singled twice.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor on Sunday, Millinocket finished off Orono-Veazie in a game that had been suspended due to rain in the fourth inning on Friday.

Millinocket pounded out 11 runs in the fourth, keyed by a two-run triple by Nick Beaulieu.

Brad Cyr led the Millinocket offense with two doubles and Dan Frost belted a double and a single. Brandon Chasse and Chris Poirier each had a pair of singles. Dan Frost notched the complete game victory, fanning eight.

For Orono-Veazie, Derrick Sinclair slammed a double and a single. Josh Keefe poked two singles.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor on Sunday, Hermon unleashed a 15-hit barrage en route to the triumph over Millinocket.

Phil Cayford led the way with a triple and two singles. Josh Ames tripled and singled, Ron Lane doubled and singled, and Pat Healey, Reid Frye and Brett Tarr each poked a pair of singles. Frye pitched four innings of one-run relief to earn the win.

Nick Beaulieu, Dan Frost and Dave Michaud recorded two singles apiece for Millinocket.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor on Sunday, Josh Cyr singled home Jeremy Stormann in the top of the eighth to give Old Town the victory over Coastal of Blue Hill. Stormann shut down Coastal in the bottom of the inning to get the win in relief.

Chris Rand paced the Old Town offense with a double and a single.

For Coastal, Baron Yurchick belted a double and a single and Colby Allen doubled.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor on Sunday, Travis Tripp fired a five-inning shutout, scattering four hits, striking out eight and walking only two, as Acadian of Mount Desert Island cruised by Bangor.

Acadian registered 14 hits on the day, led by Bodie Abbott’s double and single. The team got two singles each from Brandon Colbeth, Brian Greenleaf, B.J. Greenleaf and James Cameron.

Joe Taylor smacked two singles for Bangor.

Hampden-Orono-Veazie prevails

At Bangor on Saturday, Lina Patton drove in the game-winning run with a single in the bottom of the seventh inning as Hampden-Orono-Veazie tipped Glenburn-Levant 24-23.

Lacy Littlefield allowed just two hits and struck out 16 in six innings for the winners. Michelle Walls struck out three in the top of the seventh to earn the win.

Kate Plowman contributed four singles and Wells hit a single.

Ashley Smith accounted for both Glenburn-Levant hits with a pair of singles.

At Bangor on Saturday, Jenny Rowe paced Bangor by notching four singles in four innings.

Kristin Parker and Amy Hackett followed up with a double and a single apiece. Rachel Roberts recorded two singles and Erica Tweedie hit a triple for Bangor.

Amanda Page led Hermon with two singles. Lillian Barry notched a double, and Alley Whorton and Ashley Kelley contributed a single each.

Jenna Winegardner added two doubles and two singles for Old Town, Allison Brown hit a double and a single, and Devan Richard recorded two singles.

Hannah Beal led Machias with three singles, a double and a triple. Kayla Wood also hit three singles. Carilla Fritz and Megan Look hit a double and two singles apiece. Rebecca Cox added two singles.

Hampden-Orono-Veazie wins

At Bangor on Sunday, Hampden-Orono-Veazie’s Michelle Wells struck out 10 batters and allowed only two hits in four innings in a 16-5 win over Old Town.

Lina Patton, Lacy Littlefield, Kate Plowman and Ashley Gott each notched a single for Hampden-Orono-Veazie in a game shortened by the 10-run rule.

Sami Morin and Lakin Moulton recorded a single apiece for Old Town.

At Bangor, three singles apiece from Kayla Wood and Megan Look allowed Machias to slide by Glenburn-Levant.

Carilla Fritz’s two singles also gave Machias the boost needed to come out on top.

Jessica Stuart, Erica Hanson and Ashley Smith hit two singles apiece for Glenburn-Levant. Smith also came back to hit a double.
