Nancy Oden had it right (BDN, July 1-2, op-ed). This is what’s happening in Washington County right now:

So-called “wild” blueberry growers are spraying poisons called pesticides, known to damage human central nervous systems, all over Down East where it drifts onto people, wildlife, plants and organic farms.

Cranberry growers fill their fake bogs with water from our streams, pour pesticides in, then let that poisoned water back into rivers and coastal waters, poisoning all in its path.

Fin-fish aquacultists pour pesticide onto the caged Atlantic salmon to kill parasites attracted by the unable-to-escape fish, poisoning coastal waters, harming lobsters and other aquatic life.

Why doesn’t the Bangor Daily News consider this news? We have pesticides in our drinking water. We have growing cancers and birth defects. You report on stuff like this from other places — why not tell the truth about Down East? Anna Andresen Machias
