LEWISTON – Joey Gamache is going from the boxing ring to the big screen in a low-budget kickboxing movie to be filmed in his hometown this month.
Two nights are set aside for the movie’s climax: a gritty fight scene planned for the Lewiston Armory, where Gamache fought several times during the course of his career.
“Shadow Glories,” written by Marc Sandler, is about a 20-something-female kickboxer and her challenge of the male world champion. Gamache will play a role, as will his father, Joe Sr.
Gamache, 34, retired last year. Maine’s only world boxing champion left the sport with a record of 55-4, including 38 knockouts.
