VEAZIE — Police arrested Mark Wood, 41, of Greenbush Tuesday night, charging him with reckless conduct with a firearm after he allegedly fired a shot at the another man.
Wood may face additional charges following the incident at the Stucco Lodge. An argument during the late afternoon escalated to the point that police were called with a report of a shot being fired about 6 p.m.
Veazie police Officer Andrew Whitehouse said Wood and a 20-year-old woman had been confronted at the motel by the woman’s boyfriend and that Wood had fired a shot from a .22-caliber semiautomatic off to the side of the other man.
Whitehouse said that the woman left with her boyfriend but returned to the motel with Wood and her father about 9 p.m. to get a refund for the room. They were met by police, said Whitehouse, who arrested Wood at gunpoint.
The 20-year-old woman, who police would only identify as a Bangor resident, was placed in a police cruiser, although she was not under arrest. As authorities were walking Wood to the cruiser, she approached them and told Wood to give her whatever money he had so she could bail him out.
Orono police and the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the investigation and Whitehouse said that an unspent bullet was recovered, although the firearm wasn’t immediately located. Police will continue to look for the bullet that was fired.
