PORTLAND – A former Maine Mariners player was named assistant coach of the Portland Pirates on Wednesday.

Steve Tsujiura played for the Mariners between 1982 and 1990. He had 117 goals and 238 assists for 355 points in 408 career games with the Mariners. He skated for American Hockey League teams in Springfield, Mass., and Utica, N.Y., played in Switzerland and was on the Japanese team in the 1998 Winter Olympics. For the past two years, he was head coach of the Japanese National Team.
