Newport man faces domestic assault charge

A Newport man was arrested for domestic assault at 6:25 a.m. Friday in the parking lot of Dunkin’ Donuts on Odlin Road in Bangor.

Police received a call that James M. Black, 36, was beating a woman.

Black reportedly was very upset when Bangor police Officer Jeff Small arrived at the Dunkin’ Donuts store. Black was crying and told police he didn’t hurt the woman.

The victim said that at one point Black grabbed her throat. She directed Small’s attention to her eye and lip area, where she said Black had struck her.

Before police arrived, a man reportedly approached Black and the woman and told Black “not to be hitting her.” Once the police arrived, the man was not found or identified for questioning.
