MILLINOCKET – Shena Pineau notched the game-winner at the 5:49 mark of the second overtime to lift the Stearns Minutemen over the Central Red Devils 2-1 Friday in the mutual high school field hockey opener.

Pineau took a pass from Ashley Boynton and dodged to the right and fired it in as Central goalie Cindy Dehm came out to meet her. Pineau also had an unassisted goal in the first half. Minuteman goalie Pam Pelletier stopped nine of 10 shots.

For Central, Jess Fenn tallied an unassisted goal. Dehm made 21 saves on 23 shots.

Piscataquis 5, Orono 1

At Guilford, Veronica Garrett-Young racked up two goals and an assist as the Pirates cruised by Orono.

Meagan Galuski aided the cause with a goal and two assists and Kacie Weymouth and Carole-Anne Emery recorded a goal and an assist each. Goalie Caterina Rittano made seven saves on eight shots for 1-0 Piscataquis.

For 0-1 Orono, Maia Pinskey notched an unassisted goal. Jessie Newcomb turned away 18 of 23 shots.

John Bapst 3, Hampden 1

At Hampden, Logan Rich scored a pair of goals and Julia Sleeper made nine saves on 10 shots as John Bapst won its opener.

Courtney Freeman had the other goal and Ann Sullivan had a pair of assists. Megan Gekler added an assist.

Sarah Peters scored for Hampden and Jen Hessert made 35 saves on 38 shots.

Boys soccer

Nokomis 3, Foxcroft 1

At Newport, Justin Veazie scored a pair of goals as the Warriors triumphed in a mutual season-opener.

Ryan McClellan notched the other Nokomis goal with Danny Burgess, Justin Paradis and Avery Horr collecting an assist apiece. Tyler Peters made three saves on 10 shots.

Paco Hernandez scored for the Ponies and John Tabor rejected 15 of 23 shots.

John Bapst 2, Orono 1

At Bangor, Jon Rudnicki fired in an unassisted goal at the 36-minute mark of the second half to lift the Crusaders over Orono in a mutual season opener.

Zack Means scored Bapst’s first goal on a pass from Rudnicki. Goalkeeper Billy Chapman made 10 saves on 11 shots.

For the Red Riots, Nat Breece logged an unassisted goal. Goalie Mark Mehuren turned back 14 of 16 shots.

Lee 4, Katahdin 1

At Katahdin, Matt Corbin scored three goals for Lee leading the 2-0 Panda to victory.

David Rideout had a goal for Lee while Dustin Pickering had an assist. Adam Ham saved 10 of the 21 shots he faced.

Carson Kelly scored unassisted for Katahdin while Chris McNally made nine saves from 18 shots.

Ellsworth 3, Bucksport 0

At Bucksport, Greg Murray scored two goals for 1-0 Ellsworth, both were penalty kicks.

Casey Lock scored unassisted while Joe Richards made one save from seven shots.

Trevor Stevens faced six shots and saved three for 0-1 Bucksport.

Penquis 4, Penobscot Valley 1

At Milo, Bud Webb registered three goals to pace Penquis of Milo by Penobscot Valley of Howland.

Justin Allen added a goal for the 1-0 Patriots. Levi Ladd distributed two assists and Peter Bissell recorded an assist. Goalie Jason Stubbs made eight saves on 10 shots.

For 0-1 Penobscot Valley, Brandon Soucier scored on an assist from Keith Champion. Justin Cloukey turned away 16 of 22 shots.

Dexter 3, Central 0

At Corinth, Jeremy Kinney scored a pair of goals and Brian Hersey made 10 saves on 25 shots as Dexter opened with a win.

Matt Foster scored the other goal and Matt Capobianco had an assist.

Mark Straub made eight saves on 16 shots for Central.

Old Town 2, Hermon 2

At Hermon, Ryan Bernard scored unassisted for 0-0-1 Old Town while Nick St. Louis scored with an assist from Andy Pease. John Graves faced 12 shots amd saved 10.

For Hermon, Gaston Pineiro scored with an assist from Matt Riendau. Parker Roberts scored on a penalty kick. Matt Watson made seven saves from nine shots for the 0-0-1 Hawks.

MCI 4, Belfast 1

At Pittsfield, Chris Ingham booted in two goals and notched two assists as Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield toppled Belfast in a mutual season opener.

Ryan Small and Mike Nayock added a goal each and Andrew St. Clair notched an assist for the Huskies. Goalies Saun Bashford and Philipp Schiefer combined for nine saves on 10 shots.

For Belfast, Steve Matlock scored on an assist from Graig Schaub. Goalkeeper Kevin Herbig stopped 11 of the 15 shots fired his way.

JV: MCI 3-0

Girls soccer

Belfast 4, MCI 0

At Belfast, Rosie Hughes booted in two goals to lead the Lions by Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Jenny Cameron and Jessica Sawyer both added a goal and Rachel Hayslip had two assists for 1-0 Belfast. Goalie Mylissa Collins stopped four of five shots.

For 0-1 MCI, goalkeeper Jen Cummings made 25 saves on 30 shots.
