Maine sports enthusiast and philanthropist Harold Alfond will be honored on Oct. 8 when he will become the first person inducted into the Maine Sports Legends Hall of Honors. The induction ceremony will take place at the Harold and Bibby Alfond Youth Center in Waterville at a noon luncheon.

Former United States Senator George J. Mitchell is scheduled to speak at the luncheon. Other inductees are Edward “Packy” McFarland and Eugene Hunter of Scarborough, Bob Whytock of Farmingdale and Ted Shiro of Waterville.

A friendship tour will begin at 11:30 with the meal and induction ceremony to follow. Tickets are $50 and may be reserved by contacting Paul McClay at (207) 622-1539 or by email at mcclay@midmaine.com.
