FORT KENT – I Can Cope, a program to assist cancer patient and their families, will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, and continue on Mondays beginning Oct. 16, at Northern Maine Medical Center.
The program, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, helps families adjust to a cancer diagnosis. Participants can share their concerns with others who are cancer patients or families of patients.
The program includes eight sessions held weekly on cancer, its treatments, managing effects of illness and treatment, keeping well in mind and body, communicating concerns, self-esteem and intimacy, mobilizing resources and support, and celebrating life. Guest speakers will include professionals in cancer management. Videotapes and other materials help inform patients and families. For information or to register, call 834-3155, Ext. 3123.
